EXEMPTION OF TAX ON SALES (VAT)
Hotel rates for foreign travelers and nonresidents in Peru are exempted from the 18% VAT. The tax exemption applies only if travelers show their original ID (identification document) and the customs form stamped by Peruvian authorities at the time of registration at the hotel desk.
A foreign traveler with a stay in the country of more than 60 days is not eligible for tax exemption.
TAX ON SALES (VAT) IN CASE OF ‘NO SHOW’
Suppose a traveler does not use the reserved service(s) at the hotel (‘no show’). In that case, the amount invoiced by the hotel is subject to the additional payment of 18% tax on sales according to Peruvian tax regulations. That means the tax exemption for foreign travelers is no longer valid in case of a ‘no show.’
PeruRail has introduced new baggage allowance restrictions for train passengers to Machu Picchu. Only one piece of hand baggage up to a maximum of 5 kg (11 pounds) and a total linear dimension of 157 cm (62 inches) per passenger is accepted. This measure has been introduced as emergency exits on trains were usually blocked with passengers’ luggage.
Carry-on Baggage Allowance
Each passenger may take
One bag or backpack
62 inches/157 cm
(length + height + width)
Baggage that exceeds the measures will not be allowed
Cusco’s climate is divided into two differentiated seasons: the rainy season, from November to April (the heaviest rainfalls usually occur between January and February), and the dry season, from May to October. The dry season is colder, so temperatures can drop to below 0 Celsius degrees at night (32 F).
